National Sales Managers are what is known as Second Line Managers. In both the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Industries you would normally progress to this position only after you have been a Regional Sales Manager. It might sometimes be possible to become a National Sales Manager if you have a lot of experience in training.
To become a National Sales Manager, you will already have an impressive track record of sales successes and man-management. You will need to be able to show that you have already led, inspired and improved a team at a regional level. Once you become a National Sales Manager you will be managing managers rather than sales people. You therefore need to be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills as well as being able to prove your project management skills and high level of commerciality and analytical thinking.
As well as working with your team of Regional Business Managers, you will be liaising closely with the Marketing department, Training department and Product Managers.
The role of a National Sales Manager is highly strategic and senior and it is quite likely that you will be reporting directly to the Managing Director of the Company.
