Optical technician jobs and laboratory vacancies in Birmingham. Zest Optical are recruiting a glazing technician for one of the largest lens manufacturers in Europe at their laboratory in Birmingham.

A highly skilled and experienced glazing technician is required to join one of Europe's leading lens manufactures at their lab based in Birmingham. The organisation focuses on providing its customers with high quality lenses based on the on-going product innovation and state of the art production resources that it uses.

The chosen candidate will have experience working in an Optical glazing laboratory environment, and have an extensive knowledge of all types of optical glazing options desired. Excellent optical lens knowledge is also essential, as is knowledge or experience of the glazing processes e.g Focimeter operation, Automatic tracer equipment, edging wheels, automatic and manual drill for rimless frames and decorative faceting.

As well as being organised and self-motivated, you will have the ability to work in team and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Track lenses into assembly department.
  • Receive lenses, review against label, job ticket and original order.
  • Undertake optical and cosmetic quality.
  • Mark and button lenses as required and edge to size.
  • Adjust finished shape and size of lenses to suit the frame and/or customer requirements.
  • Fit the edged/finished lens to the frame.
  • Review the completed order against cosmetic, optical, frame setup and cleanliness standards and sign commitment cards where necessary.
  • Maintain familiarity with the latest techniques to ensure orders can be glazed internally.
  • Received and provide training as required.
  • Take care of the environment in which you work, looking after all company property.
  • Meet company demands in terms of quality, cost and timing.
  • Work to daily efficiency, production and quality targets to ensure that internal and external customers are satisfied at all times
  • Follow all Health and Safety procedures as requested by the Team Leader.
  • Comply with all standard operating procedures (SOPS), work instructions or procedures applicable to the role.
  • Take responsibility of Health and Safety issues.
